MARY ANN HENDEE DIES; TAUGHT AT NOTRE DAME

Mary Ann Steiner Hendee, retired after teaching for 21 years at Notre Dame High School, died Wednesday evening in a local hospital. She was 63.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Mrs. Hendee was a graduate of Notre Dame, the Rosary College and the University of Chattanooga.
She had served as a Red Cross volunteer at Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years and was a volunteer with the Community Kitchen.
Mrs. Hendee was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Amnesty International.
She was preceded in death by her father Edward Francis Steiner, and a son, John Edward Hendee.
Survivors include her husband, L. Clyde Hendee; four daughters, Myra Ireland, Catherine Hendee and Monica Blanton, all of Chattanooga, Mary Ellis of Boulder, Colo.; fine sons, Leon C. Hendee III, Atlanta, Peter G. Hendee, Winston-Salem, N.C., William A. Hendee, Chattanooga, Joseph M. Hendee, Knoxville, Tenn., and Jeffrey T. Hendee, West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Shirley Prey and Sue Payne, both of Chattanooga, Carole Tubbs, Sevierville, Tenn., and Sister Catherine Steiner, Atlanta; two brothers, Jack Steiner, Chattanooga, and Ed Steiner of Clearwater, Fla.; mother Myra Weidner Steiner, Chattanooga; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul with the Rev. George Schmidt, the Rev. Joseph Breen, the Rev. Ed Steiner, the Rev. Mike Nolan, the Rev. All Humbrecht and the Rev. James Mallett officiating.
Pallbearers will be James Phifer, Jeff Fisher, Bob Mahoney, George Valadie, Jude Weidner, Jack Steiner Jr., and Jimmy Tubbs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame High School Tuition Assistance Program.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.
