Born in Sheffield, Mass., Feb. 3, 1748[49] (according to the town records). He settled in his native town and remained thereuntil after the close of the Revolutionary War. In 1783 he removed to Hubbardton, Vt., where his father had settled in 1774/5. He served in the Revolution in Capt. Enoch Noble's Company, from Sheffield, Oct. 23, 1780, to Nov. 7, 1780. sixteen days. Marched to Bennington, Vt. Married, Dec. 7, 1773, Amy Stiles, born March 2, 1755. He died March 20[22], 1821.
