Martha was born in 1625. Jacobus, Donald Lines, et al., Hale, House and Related Families, Mainly of the Connecticut River Valley (Hartford: Connecticut Historical Society, 1952) She was the daughter of [[Betts-117

Mary Biggs]].

The wife of Nathaniel Graves was the sister of John Betts, known from the following deed:::27 Jan 1662, "Know all men by these presents that I John Betts of my owne free & voluntary good will have given & bequeathed and doe by these presents fully and clearly & absolutely give unto my brother Nathaniell Graves the one half of my movables about my House to have & to hold to him and to his heires and their proper use and behoofe forever. In witness wharrof I have set to my hand this ninetenth day of January one thousand six hundred sixty two. John Betts.A similar deed was made giving the other half of his goods to Nathaniel Graves the spouse of his sister Martha. Thus proving thatMary Boreman and Martha Graves were children of the Widow Mary Betts (John's mother) an early settler of Hartford.Goldthwait: Boardman Genealogy, p. 138 citing Wethersfield Records Vol. II p. 73 headed "Nathaniel Graves Deeds of Gift.
