Notes

Research Needed by Greg Hays, WikiTree

I believe there may have been two Samuel Cary's born 1711. I have seen trees stating his birthplace was in Bristol, England, parents names Samuel and Mary. Unfortunately, no source has been attached to this. There is a Samson Cary who was rec'd from Nailsworth Meeting in England in 1714 along with his wife, as recorded by the Philadelphia Meeting[1] Could this be his father? Samuel definitely was in Bucks County, PA sometime before his marriage to Sarah Stackhouse. Samuel received a certificate of removal from the Abington Meeting to join the Falls Meeting in 1730[2] He later received a certificate of removal from Falls Meeting to the Middletown Meeting in order to marry[3] Their marriage certificate shows only one other Cary in attendance. The name appears to be Samson Cary, who is likely his brother, and in his will he describes land being given to his son Asa as purchased by his Uncle Samson. Samuel Cary and Mary Poole did not name a son Samson. It would appear from Samuel's marriage certificate that he had no family in the area, other than Samson. Many family trees have his place of death as Dover, NY, but his will, as well as his wife's will, proves otherwise. [4] They also have a marriage to a Susanna Page in 1749 MA. He definitely was not in Massachusetts in 1749.

John Cary the Plymouth Pilgrim[5] gives the children of Samuel Cary & Mary Poole of Massachusetts. "Of the four daughters no record has yet been found; and little is definitely known of Samuel and David, except that they had large families in Albany and Dutchess Counties, NY."
