The Buffalo Times (Buffalo, New York) 20 Oct 1899, Friday, page 6 OBITUARY In the death of Joshua P. Morgan at Elgin, Ill., Buffalo has lost one of its pioneers. At the time of his death he was 96 years of age. Mr. Morgan was the Father of Darwin C. Morgan, head of the D. E. Morgan, Son & Allen Company. He was born in Brookfieldand at the age of 14 came to Buffalo with his parents. In 1825 he married Miss Shaw of Evans. D. E. Morgan was the eldest child from this marriage. The deceased was at this time engaged In business at the corner of Main and Quay streets. Later he became a partner in the firm of O. H. Dibble & Co., which is the firm that bought a quantity of land in the Tifft Farm with the Intention of making that the commercial section of Buffalo. Mr. Morgan was an exceedingly busy man all his life but he found time to devote to his religion to which he became very enthusiastic, having assisted in founding the old Washington Street Baptist Church. He built the brick church on Washington street near Swan, now occupied by the Salvation Army. During the panic of 1836 Mr. Morgan decided to move farther west. He settled in Elgin, Ill., where he died. |
